Green Thumb? I Have One

I took pictures of the garden before we went on our vacation.  Then I took some more just yesterday, we have tons growing.   It is crazy how things change so much.  But I will admit our garden has been slow moving.  I just hope that things get moving a bit so we get all our tomatoes that our heart desires.  I definitely will be doing some things different next year.  Like putting the herbs in their own designated area.  I will spread out the plants more as well, especially since we are doing another box next year to have more and better veggies.  I love to garden it is a new hobby/interest.  I also was given a garden book (You Grow Girl) and some garden tools for my birthday.  I have learned a lot of what I did or am doing wrong and learned that my instincts about the garden stuff were pretty accurate.  I still have a ton to learn though and get a grasp on.  But it is fun and my friend Natalie and I have so much fun looking at our garden and seeing what has changed from day to day.  So glad I finally took the plunge and just did it.

I have made natural safe insect killer (learned this from my book), from lemon and water and non-detergent soap.  I made another also with garlic, onion, chili flakes, and water.  That one was potent and I left it in the garage and it leaked and made it stink, like rotten puke.  But it is cleaned so don't worry.  But I wish I would have had to book before cause when the garden was first put in we started having insect problems they ate some of the tomatoes early on.  So we used a pesticide powder thing.  So my garden isn't organic, but next time it will be cause the natural stuff works great.  But I do keep getting mixed directions on certain things some people say one thing and the book says another and the Internet says another.  I think it must be a lot of trial and error.  Good thing it is fun though.

first big tomatoes growing

my carrots I started from seed about a week after i put in the garden, I wasn't sure they would grow, but they are huge now so glad i did carrots.

Just be warned I was messing with some new features I found on my camera and used my garden and the kids as my objects.  This is how my garden looks presently.  And we have been able to eat some of the tomatoes and cherry tomatoes already.  Yum!

Our garden is full maybe too full, but I love it.  It gives me such a sense of pride when I go out and care for it.  If I could I would high-five myself.
